Tottenham’s hunt for a new manager looks to have moved one step closer. According to Sky Sports, they are continuing talks with Belgium boss Roberto Martinez this week.
The Spaniard is considering a return to club management following Euro 2020, and he is one of several candidates to replace Jose Mourinho in North London.

Several Candidates
Tottenham reportedly have a list of several candidates that they are considering to replace their former Portuguese manager. Mourinho was sacked on April 19, leaving Ryan Mason in temporary charge until the end of the season.
Mason did a good job at handling the role until the end of the season, winning four of his six Premier League games in charge. However, the 29-year-old is not in the running for the permanent position.
According to Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic, Erik ten Hag and Ralf Ragnick are the leading candidates for the vacancy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Ten Hag was one of the first names linked to the role, but he instead signed a one-year contract extension with Ajax, with whom he won the league title with this season.
Ragnick has not held a managerial role since leaving RB Leipzig in 2019. However, he has acted as the Head of Sport for the energy drink brand Red Bull, who own Leipzig and various teams across the globe.
Ten Hag and Ragnick are joined by Martinez and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter in the running for the job, according to Sky Sports.
The report suggests that Martinez has held talks with Tottenham and that they are set to resume this week. Those talks are unaffected by the Spaniard’s participation and preparation in Euro 2020 this summer.
Tottenham Need to Make an Appointment Soon
Daniel Levy’s appointment of Jose Mourinho and the hope for instant success under his regime failed to pay off. As a result, they need to make the correct appointment sooner rather than later.
With plenty at stake, this could be a vital summer for the North London club. They do not know whether they will be entering the 2021/22 season with their most coveted striker and who will be at the helm to guide them back to the Champions League – both need to be sorted as quickly as possible.
Spurs will, of course, want to take their time over the appointment. However, giving time to their next manager, regardless of who it is, may be more important for their long-term future.
