On the pitch, it has been a strange season to say the least for Tottenham Hotspur. Off the pitch, though, things appear to be moving as there are plans for extensions at their Hotspur Way training ground, with planning applications already submitted, according to football.london‘s Alasdair Gold.

Designers Drawing Up Proposals for Extended Facilities
Tottenham’s Enfield-based training complex is considered to be one of the best in Europe, if not in the world, with its own hotel complex and facilities designed specifically for the academy teams.
Even though the planning applications have been submitted, it is unlikely that any extensions will happen in the near future as Spurs have suffered financial losses throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the club want to ensure that the facilities can be improved in the future.
Training Facilities
With Hotspur Way accommodating not only the first team but the academy team, Women’s Super League team and injury centres, it should not come as a surprise that more space is going to be required.
Improved sports science facilities are part of the plans as well as a new gym that will be entirely dedicated to rehabilitation from injuries, which would be away from the main training facilities meaning that players and physio staff can focus solely on recovery for injured players.
Youth is Key to Tottenham’s Future
The architects for the new plans are F3 and their statement regarding the plans referenced a focus on youth sport at Spurs:
“This application is a direct response to the club’s ongoing operational needs, as they seek to foster youth sport and increase opportunity for the local community.”
Considering the financial implications of Coronavirus on the North London club along with a season that has seen Jose Mourinho sacked, another trophy too easily given up and Harry Kane rumoured to be looking for a way out of the club, it is not surprising that the club will turn to youth to drive them forward in the coming years.
Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga and Dane Scarlett are all considered to be exciting players who could become first-team regulars from the 2021/22 Premier League season. All three are young and hungry and will come at a fraction of the cost of any big names the new manager may decide they want to bring in so looking to continue that trend will be appealing to chairman Daniel Levy.
Media
A new media Ccentre is also part of the plans to allow for dedicated media work including interviews as well as video footage to be put together to analyse games and opponents.
Planning Permission
F3 are keen to get the project moving and Enfield Council will now look at the planning applications with a decision to be made by June 22nd.
The architects were responsible for the internal space of the premium areas of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where bars and restaurants were installed, so they have close links with the club and know what they are looking for in both design and experience.
