Cambridge United striker Paul Mullin has been named League Two Player of the Season. It follows the announcement of Jonson Clarke-Harris and Emi Buendia as Player of the Season award winners for League One and the Championship respectively.

Mullin, 26, has enjoyed the best goalscoring campaign of his career, netting 29 goals in 44 appearances so far for the League Two outfit.
Since joining in July 2020, the forward has proved an incredible success at the Abbey Stadium – firing them to within a touching distance of promotion.
The forward has proved one of the most fruitful strikers across Europe this season. Robert Lewandowski (36 goals) is the only individual from Europe’s top five leagues to have scored more than Mullings’ tally of 29 so far.
Lionel Messi (26), Kylian Mbappe (25), Erling Haaland (25), Cristiano Ronaldo (25), and Harry Kane (21) all sit below the former Tranmere Rovers striker in the goalscoring charts.
Speaking after receiving the award, Mullin said: “I said earlier in the season that it would be nice to stay ahead of Messi and Ronaldo, but I did not see it lasting long.
“I think at the minute they are still three or four goals behind me so that is a nice feeling, but for me now it is all about promotion.
“Obviously I have had a really good season and been successful myself, but it is now more about the team than me.”
This season’s League Two fight for promotion has resulted in a heightened level of competitiveness. Throughout the season, seven different teams have occupied the top spot.
United have shown to be one of the more consistent performers, however, occupying the top spot for 17 matchdays and still being only two points behind current leaders Cheltenham Town.
“We have been there or there about all year long, but the manager has been a key part of that,” Mullin said. “He has brought in a lot of good lads, a lot of key players, and he has always remained level-headed with us.
“He always demands more from us no matter how we are doing. Up to now it has worked quite well so going into the last two games hopefully we can keep it going.”
