Eduardo Camavinga, one of the hottest young prospects in world football, is set to turn down the offer of a contract extension, according to The Athletic. The 18-year-old midfielder’s current deal is set to expire in June 2022, at which point clubs will be able to sign him on a free transfer.

Rennes have offered a lucrative new deal in a bid to keep hold of their star player, however, Camavinga looks set to turn down that offer in order to play for one of Europe’s big teams. Rennes may now look to sell the French midfielder this summer, as this will represent the last chance to cash in on their star prodigy.
Camavinga, who is valued at £54 million on TransferMarkt, could move for a cut-throat fee this summer. Rennes will likely listen to lower offers for the player, as clubs will be reluctant to pay a high fee given that Camavinga could be snapped up on a free in one year.
Interested Parties
Real Madrid are one of the clubs that are keeping close tabs on Camavinga, with manager Zinedine Zidane possibly looking for long term replacements for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Camavinga has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all reportedly interested.
His agent, Jonathan Barnett, recently said that Camavinga would be more than capable of playing in the Premier League. Speaking to The Athletic, Barnett stated: “Camavinga can play next year in the Premier League. He is that good. Whether he will or not, I don’t know. His background has been tough if you know what he went through as a refugee and the burning of his home (in Rennes).”
Camavinga was born in a refugee camp in Angola, before moving to France when he was two. He claims that his family house burning down was his motivation to pursue a career in football. He joined the Rennes’ youth system when he was 11, turning professional when he turned 16.
He made his debut in the 2018/19 season, before securing a permanent first-team place the following season. Camavinga made 25 Ligue 1 appearances last season, helping Rennes qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history. He also made his senior debut for France this season, marking the occasion by scoring a clever overhead kick.
