Antonio Chooses Jamaica With England Call Unlikely
West Ham United’s Michail Antonio has decided that his international future lies with Jamaica rather than England after Jamaica approached the 30-year-old last month. He has since been considering which side of the coin he should land on. Antonio was born in England and his parents were born in Jamaica meaning he had the choice of either Country. When it comes to choosing which International side you will play for, time and age can be key factors.
England
Antonio has never actually played for England despite being called upon by both Gareth Southgate and Sam Allardyce. With Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling among others ahead of him, the choice to play for Jamaica provides a better chance of regular football at international level.
England Career Blocked
Michail Antonio is a physical striker and has been a vital part of David Moyes’ West Ham revolution but he is a long way down the order when it comes to the England national team.
Even with the likes of Danny Ings and Tammy Abraham injured, Antonio knows that his chances of being picked are low and chances of playing even lower than that so his decision is little surprise and Antonio deserves to be respected for his choice.
Antonio’s manager at West Ham had been hoping that the striker would wait for his England chance, telling football. London that; “I am still holding out he has a chance to get picked for England.”
Maybe that England call for Antonio would have come but he has made his decision and chooses Jamaica instead.
