According to Christian Falk, Liverpool are interested in making a summer move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus. The 23-year-old has a release clause of £40 million and could prove to be a bargain buy should he reach his potential.
In such an important summer, Liverpool cannot afford to go wrong in the transfer market. They must avoid a costly transitional period and retake their place at the top whilst they have the squad to do so.
Liverpool Interested in Florian Neuhaus
Neuhaus to Replace Wijnaldum
With any talk of a new contract coming to a crashing halt, Georginio Wijnaldum looks likelier than ever to depart Liverpool as a free agent in the summer. So, naturally, the search for a replacement will be on.
And Neuhaus could be on the list of candidates to replace the departing Dutchman. He ticks several boxes for Jurgen Klopp. Working under Marco Rose, he has picked up the ability to play in an intense pressing system. At the age of 23, too, Neuhaus should be entering close to his prime years.
Wijnaldum offers so much to Liverpool that will be sorely missed. And, whilst Neuhaus may not be able to replace his leadership at Liverpool, he can replace his midfield versatility.
The German international has proven at Gladbach his ability to play in a number of position and formations. Against Manchester City, for example, he played in a 4-3-3 system as a number eight- a role Wijanldum is all too familiar with.
Yet, against Wolsfurg, he played in a 4-2-3-1 as a double pivot- again, a role Wijnaldum has played so well for Liverpool before. The fact is, Neuhaus seems an ideal replacement.
He ticks the box for age, ability, adaptability and the systematic knowledge of playing in both a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-3-3.
