Mark Robinson Appointed AFC Wimbledon Head Coach

Spell as Interim Manager

Robinson has landed the role of permanent Head Coach following a successful interim spell, despite only managing one game.

His only game in charge came in a 3-2 win against Wigan Athletic. A brace from striker Joe Pigott helped them on their way to collecting a vital three points after Jack Rudoni opened the scoring midway through the first half.

Robinson’s impression on the training ground and being familiar with the club has also help land him the role. He first joined the club in 2004, and has held various roles since.

As a result, Wimbledon fans will be hoping that he can help steer the club away from the threat of relegation. They currently sit 20th in League One, just three points off bottom place Burton Albion.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his appointment to the club’s official website, Robinson said: “Everyone knows how I feel about AFC Wimbledon and I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity at the club that is the greatest story in football; a club with a great heritage and the best supporters in the country.

“There is undoubtedly a lot of hard work to be done but when you look at the quality in the squad and the academy, alongside the good people we have in place in and around the club, if we can all pull together it makes me genuinely excited about what we can achieve.”

CEO, Joe Palmer, added: “It’s fair to say that, in his short time as Interim Manager, Mark has made a hugely positive impression on the players and staff.

“This impact, coupled with his determination and ability to bring about cultural change, gave Mark the edge over the other candidates and we are delighted to give him this chance to show us where he can take us.”
