The Argentinian is part of a goalkeeping trio who are expected to depart Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Sergio Romero Expected to Leave Manchester United at the End of the Season
Third-Choice Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Romero is now the third-choice goalkeeper at United behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson. As a result, he is looking to leave Old Trafford; he was close to sealing a move away from the club last summer, but a move did not materialise.
As a result, he remained with the club this season. The 33-year-old is yet to feature for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in either the Premier League or cup competitions.
Romero has acted as understudy to De Gea since moving to United ahead of the 2015/16 season. The Argentine has predominantly featured in domestic and European competitions, making 61 appearances in all competitions. During that time he has kept 38 clean sheets.
Who Else is Expected to Join Romero in Leaving?
The 33-year-old is expected to be joined by Joel Pereira and 22-year-old goalkeeper Paul Woolston in leaving the club. While Lee Grant is also out of contract in the summer, the former Stoke City goalkeeper is in line for a coaching role, according to reports.
Pereira is currently on loan with Championship side Huddersfield Town. However, he has endured a torrid time with the Terriers, making just one appearance.
The Portuguese goalkeeper has made just three appearances for the senior side at Old Trafford, making his debut in the FA Cup n 2017.
Woolston, meanwhile, has featured predominantly for the U23’s during his time with the club. He is one of several members of the U23 squad to be out of contract this summer.
