Brentford Battle Back to Pile Pressure on Championship Summit

Brentford had to overcome a one-goal deficit to earn all three points in Teesside and extended their unbeaten run to 20 Championship games. The visitors ended up 4-1 winners against a Middlesbrough side who have been an extremely tough side to beat on home soil this season.

The hosts got off to a perfect start, scoring after just three minutes when Neeskens Kebano‘s floated cross was fumbled by Bees’ keeper David Raya into his own net. Ivan Toney then fired in an equaliser, finishing off a one-two with Tarique Fosu.

The division’s top goal-scorer turned provider for Brentford’s second when he chested the ball down for Vitaly Janelt to volley into the bottom corner. Mathias Jensen added a third in the 64th minute, capitalising on Paddy McNair‘s slip before rounding Marcus Bettinelli and tapping in. With ten minutes to go, Toney added a fourth and his 22nd of the season, heading in Bryan Mbeumo‘s cross.

Victory for the Bees see them move to within four points of the Championship summit, and they still have two games in hand on leaders Norwich City. Middlesbrough remain in seventh place, but they are now five points off the play-offs.

Millwall Comfortably See off Struggling Owls

Millwall continued their recent turn in form with a 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday who remain in 23rd place in the Championship table.

The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute when Callum Paterson scuffed in after brilliant work from Elias Kachunga on the left-wing. Kenneth Zohore then equalised from the penalty spot in the 39th minute, after Ben Thompson was brought down by Joey Pelupessy.

Scott Malone fired the host into a well-deserved lead in the 68th minute, finishing off a very well-worked Millwall move. Thompson made it three just a minute later when his intended cross flew into the back of the net. Tom Bradshaw claimed Millwall’s fourth when Mahlon Romeo‘s powerful drive deflected off the forward and into the bottom corner.

Millwall’s convincing victory made it five games without defeat for the South-East London club and propelled the Lions into 13th place. For Sheffield Wednesday, they remain in 23rd position and three points adrift of safety.

Nottingham Forest Inflict Further Damage on Bottom-Placed Wycombe Wanderers

Nottingham Forest secured a 3-0 win against 24th-placed Wycombe Wanderers to move four points above the Championship drop.

Glenn Murray opened his Forest account after just seven minutes when his perfectly executed lobbed effort found the back of the net after the 37-year-old striker latched onto Gaëtan Bong‘s clipped ball over the top. The former Brighton & Hove Albion man then doubled his tally and Forest’s lead from the penalty spot after he was adjudged to have been brought down by Jack Grimmer.

Anthony Knockaert sealed the three points for the visitors in the 72nd minute when his first-time effort arrowed into the top corner.

Victory for Forest takes them into 18th place and four points clear of the relegation zone, whilst Wycombe are now 12 points from safety, with their chances of survival diminishing.
