The Details
According to the club’s official announcement, the loan deal is worth €100,000 and the transfer fee would be €6.75 million after the obligation to buy is exercised. In addition to these fees, there are also multiple performance-based clauses that could add up to €5.65 million in the overall worth of the deal.
This is a club-record fee for Major League Soccer club FC Dallas. Reynolds was brought through the academy system at Dallas and leaves the American side after just one full season with the senior team. Reynolds is the latest young talent from Dallas to be signed by a top club. Dallas have developed top-level talent in recent years which includes Weston McKennie, Chris Richards, and Reggie Cannon.
An Emerging Talent
The 19-year-old right-back impressed after filling in for Cannon who left to join Boavista in the Portuguese top flight in the summer transfer window. Reynolds made a total of 19 appearances for Dallas during the 2020 MLS season and registered three assists. He has been involved with the United States’ U23 side recently and has the potential to represent the U.S. at the senior level in the near future.
It initially appeared Reynolds was going to join his fellow countryman McKennie at Juventus. There were numerous rumours the defender was going to join the reigning Serie A champions, including reports from Fabrizo Romano.
In the end, Roma won out to earn Reynolds’ signature. This shows the quality Reynolds possesses as a high-quality side such as Juventus were interested in acquiring the young American talent. He will be a player to watch in the years to come as his career takes flight in Italy.
