Leicester City are still in pursuit of Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah, The Athletic are reporting. The Foxes are keen to get the deal over the line with the deadline edging closer.
Time is Ticking but Leicester Still Keen on Nathaniel Chalobah
Watford Looking for a Replacement as Leicester’s Interest in the English Midfielder Remains Strong
Leicester are in for a busy last few hours in the window as their hunt for a midfielder continues. The Foxes were keen on a move for Ainsley Maitland-Niles. However, reluctance from Arsenal to strengthen a rival meant the deal was unattainable.
With injuries to Wilfred Ndidi and Dennis Praet, Leicester are looking to strengthen their midfield options for the second half of the season. Still in the FA Cup and heading into the business end of the Europa League means they want to add depth to their squad. This is imperative for Brendan Rodgers who will be looking to avoid a second half of the season capitulation similar to what took place last season.
However, the deal for Chalobah will not be straightforward, and it is expected to come right down to the wire. Watford will not sanction a move unless they are able to confirm a replacement.
The Hornets have been linked with Sean Longstaff, yet according to Rob Tanner, that deal looks dead. This deal would have enabled Chalobah to make the move to the King Power. Also, such a signing would have enabled Hamza Choudhury to complete a loan move to Newcastle United.
Brendan Rodgers has said today that the deals Leicester are looking to complete depend on what happens with other clubs. It appears that this situation between Leicester, Watford and Newcastle is what is stuck in the way of these deals coming to fruition.
Why Nathaniel Chalobah?
The former Chelsea man is looking to prove himself in the Premier League again. The early stages of his career have been plagued with injuries. However, he has been a mainstay in an impressive Watford side this season. He has made 24 appearances this season.
Brendan Rodgers will be keen to get the best out of the midfielder. At 26-years-old he is now ready and has left his injury record behind him to really kick on.
Only time will tell if this move is to happen. Hours remain and it is going to be tight, we can expect things to fall into the place in the next few hours.
Leicester are keen to strengthen in midfield – and Chalobah appears the most likely.
