Southend United have signed midfielder Nathan Ferguson from League Two rivals Crawley Town. Ferguson arrives on a permanent deal, signing an 18-month contract at Roots Hall.
He is the Shrimpers’ third signing in this transfer window as Mark Molesley looks to boost his squad in the League Two relegation battle.

Ferguson Has Fallen Out of Favour at Crawley
The midfielder arrives hoping to finally get some games under his belt. He was regular during the 2019/20 season, making 31 appearances before the campaign was curtailed. However, he has fallen out of favour now, featuring in League Two just nine times.
A move to Southend offers regular football and a chance of helping the Shrimpers get out of trouble. Ferguson is a strong, dynamic central midfielder who gives a real presence in the middle of the park.
He can score goals as well as create them. His injection of craft will certainly be helpful in a Southend side who struggle to score goals. The Shrimpers have the worst attack in League Two, managing just 16 goals in their 25 league games.
Ferguson will link up with former Crawley teammate Ashley Nathaniel-George who joined Southend in the summer transfer window.
He is available to make his debut in the crucial clash with Port Vale – a game Southend will feel they must win to put some pressure on the sides above them.
Ferguson Pleased to Finally Get an Opportunity to Play
Speaking to the Southend website about his move, Ferguson said: “I’m very happy, I want to get back playing football again and I want to help the club get up the table.
“It was very frustrating the deal couldn’t get done last week, I had to sit at home and bide my time but I’m happy to be here now and get the move completed.
“I think I can add a lot to the team. Nobody likes losing, like anyone I want to be winning games and I want to help the team get some wins and move up the table.
“I like to break forward, get involved in scoring goals, get assists, I’m quite strong and I like to get about the pitch. I feel like I should be scoring more goals to be honest.
“It’s an important step in my career and I just want to get going now.”
