Stevenage Sign Striker Jacob Bancroft From Non-League Oxford City

Talented, teenage striker Jacob Bancroft has joined Stevenage on a permanent deal from non-league Oxford City.

The 19-year-old has impressed in the National League North since joining the Hoops in September 2020.

He is Stevenage’s fourth signing as Alex Revell looks to boost his attack.

Bancroft Arrives as Stevenage’s Fourth New Signing

The teenage striker is a product of the Swindon Town academy but he was released by the Robins in the summer. The 19-year-old has since been plying his trade in non-league with Oxford City.

Having impressed, Stevenage have now taken a chance on him. Bancroft joins a Stevenage side looking to preserve their Football League status. They sit 22nd in the League Two table, outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Goalscoring has proved a major problem for Alex Revell’s side. Only Southend United have managed fewer goals than Stevenage’s total of 16. They desperately need a consistent goal scorer. They hope Bancroft can be the man to deliver.

He is raw but has plenty of potential. A pacey, hard-working striker who is willing to make those runs forward. A consistent run of games will certainly help his development and he will hope to chip in with a few goals of his own.

Bancroft could make his Stevenage debut against Exeter City this weekend.

Talented Striker is Ready to Seize Every Opportunity

Speaking to the Stevenage website about his move, Bancroft said: “I am really happy to get this opportunity. My only goals are to work as hard as I can, to help the team and to do my best every time I get on the pitch. I will take every opportunity I get.”

Manager Alex Revell added: “Jacob is a young and exciting prospect. He has shown in the National League South that he has talent. As a football club we need to develop that talent and help him further his career as a professional footballer. We are excited to work with him and see where the journey takes us.”

As Jacob Bancroft Arrives, Luis Fernandez Heads the Other Way

With Stevenage confirming the arrival of Bancroft, they have also announced the departure of Luis Fernandez.

Fernandez heads in the other direction. He will spend the rest of the season on loan at Oxford City.
