Bayern Munich have emerged as a surprise possible destination for Reading left-back Omar Richards. The 22-year-old is out of contract this summer and is currently free to discuss pre-contracts with other clubs. The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reports that Bayern have told Reading they wish to speak to him.

Reading Not Yet Made a Fresh Contract Offer
McGrath also reports that Championship side Reading are yet to make an offer to keep Richards beyond the end of this season. The youngster, who joined from Fulham’s youth set-up in 2013, would link up with another English prodigy in Jamal Musiala if he were to make the move to Germany.
That could be a possibility if Reading do not act fast to secure Richards for the future. If they leave it too long, it’s likely that the lure of the current European Champions would be too much.
Despite being tracked by some of Europe’s top clubs since coming into the first-team picture at Reading, he has not been given a contract extension since 2017.
Richards would be competing with current Bayern left-back Alphonso Davies, 20, who has taken the league by storm since moving from Vancouver Whitecaps.
Internationally, Richards represents England and has featured once for the U21 side under Aidy Boothroyd. However, the appearance against Slovenia came back in October 2019 and he did not feature for the U21’s again.
The only setback Richards might find in terms of settling in is his age. Davies moved to the club when he was 18 and Musiala is still only 17. Richards is 22, already making him older than the man he would be trying to displace and possibly giving him less time to settle in before a decision would be made over whether the move had worked out.
