Football Career

Wright enjoyed a short career at a semi-professional level before finding fame with The Only Way Is Essex and television.

The 33-year-old started his career in the West Ham United academy, before moving onto Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

However, his professional career was short-lived, as his spell at senior level with Southend United did not last long.

Before his career in the television hit the ground running, Wright enjoyed various spells with non-league clubs in the East of England, including Grays Athletic and Heybridge Swifts.

Since finding fame, Wright has featured as one of the celebrities in the annual Soccer Aid game, which aims to raise money for UNICEF.

Mark’s brother, Josh, is also a professional footballer, plying his trade with Crawley’s League Two rivals Leyton Orient. The pair could face each other this weekend, as Crawley travel to the capital to face the O’s.

What Was Said?

Speaking about the decision to sign the TV star, manager John Yems said Wright had impressed a lot of people on the training ground when speaking to the official Crawley Town website.

“Mark has been training with us the last couple of months and really impressed everybody in training,” the Crawley boss said.

“It’s taken us eleven years to sign him back and he’s finally returned to Crawley, hopefully he can carry on from where he left off and I am pleased to have him back with his experience on and off the pitch, Mark is a great role model for players in the future.”

Meanwhile, Erdem Konyar, the club’s Technical Director, said: “The Gaffer knows Mark very well. Mark will bring an exemplary attitude that will rub off on the youngsters in the group. It’s an exciting acquisition for the club.”
