REPORT: Sol Campbell Interviewed for Sunderland Job

Campbell

Former Southend United manager Sol Campbell has been interviewed for the vacant Sunderland job, according to the Sunderland Echo. The Arsenal legend has been out of management since his departure from Roots Hall but could make a return to the technical area in Wearside, according to reports.

REPORT: Campbell Interviewed for Sunderland Job

Campbell a Risky Move

At this moment in time, Sunderland can not afford to get another managerial appointment wrong. And, in truth, when taking a look at his management record, the Black Cats should steer well clear of Campbell.

The former Arsenal player failed to impress at Southend and played a large role in their eventual relegation. Perhaps at a bigger club, he could succeed as a League One manager, but, as mentioned before, Sunderland can’t afford to take the risk.

In truth, they need the complete opposite of the inexperienced Campbell. They currently sit seventh- therefore outside of the playoff places. Appointing an experienced promotion expert is the key to any potential Sunderland success.

Sunderland Struggling Once More

The struggles seem to get worse by the year at Sunderland. From Premier League relegation, all the way to League One playoff struggles. With the fans returning throughout the festive period, too, the next manager must get off to a good start.

Perhaps that’s what the Black Cats have been missing though. That crucial 12th man in the form of fans- though only a limited number- could push them towards the playoffs and back on track.

For now, however, the struggles look to be continuing as they search for a new man in charge. It is clear they need experience rather than someone such as Campbell who is yet to prove himself when handed a challenge- especially in League One.

It will certainly be interesting to see just who takes the reigns in Wearside as we enter the all-important festive period.
