Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has provided an update on midfielder Thomas Partey, who remains absent through injury.
Mikel Arteta Reveals Thomas Partey Absence Prolonged
Thomas Partey was once again missing for Arsenal at the Emirates as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Ghanaian, who Mikel Arteta brought in for £45 million, had got fans excited. A quick, athletic player who could get Arsenal moving forward with positive passes and plenty of strength on the ball.
Partey then picked up what seemed to be an innocuous knock in the 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa at the start of November. It now seems he could be missing for more games to come.
Arteta’s Thomas Partey Update
Mikel Arteta told reporters following the game:
“He had an injury very early in the game (against Aston Villa), he wanted to continue the second half. We knew it was a significant injury. He’s done very well and he’s working very hard, he wants to be available. Hopefully, we can get him back soon but it’s an area we need to be careful and we need to be protective with the player. I don’t think he will be with us in the next few games.”
Arsenal Woes Continue
The news of Thomas Partey being missing for more games is another blow to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal. Last season’s FA Cup win was seen as a sign that Arsenal were already building something special with optimism high for the new season. The defeat to Wolves means that Arsenal have now made their worst ever start to a Premier League campaign.
It doesn’t get any easier for Arteta as their next Premier League match is the North London derby away at Tottenham Hotspur. Defeat in that game and Arteta might well start to feel the pressure on him rise very quickly. He will be hoping Partey can recover and be back soon.
