Liverpool Injury List Grows as Jurgen Klopp Confirms Naby Keita Hamstring Issue

Naby Keita

Liverpool’s injury list keeps on growing as Jurgen Klopp confirmed last night that Naby Keita suffered a hamstring injury in his side’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City. The midfielder will undergo an assessment with the club’s medical team to discover the severity of the injury.

Jurgen Klopp Confirms Naby Keita Hamstring Injury

Keita Withdrawn Early in Liverpool Win

Keita was brought off the pitch 53 minutes into Liverpool’s record breaking 3-0 win at Anfield yesterday. Jurgen Klopp explained after the match that the central midfielder had suffered with a hamstring issue.

“He felt his hamstring and was not able to play on, otherwise he would have stayed on the pitch,” Klopp said in his post-match interview.

The severity of the injury is not yet known, but, if serious, it could provide Klopp with yet another starter on the sidelines as he tries to match his success of last year in bringing Liverpool another league title.

Liverpool Struggling With Injuries

The Merseyside team have a real problem with injuries at the moment.

In defence, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both out with long term injuries, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is another absentee. Star central midfielders Thiago Alacntara and Jordan Henderson are also sidelined with injuries.

In the Reds’ most recent match, Joel Matip and Fabinho were played as a centre-back partnership. While Matip more regularly plays in defence, Fabinho is a defensive midfielder, and the fact that he had to move into central defence already weakens Liverpool’s options in midfield.

Take Henderson, Thiago and Keita out of the picture as well, and suddenly Klopp’s side are left with very few players in the middle of the park.

Having been lucky with injuries last season, Liverpool now have a large amount of starters sidelined. Fans will now have to wait and see whether the Keita injury is serious, with the hope that he can be back on the pitch as soon as possible.
