34-year-old striker Olivier Giroud could leave Chelsea this January, as per a report from The Athletic. The Frenchman is likely to leave the club, unless he plays a more significant role under Frank Lampard before the window opens in a couple of months. Giroud is considered to be Lampard’s third choice striker, with summer signing Timo Werner and the recently revitalised Tammy Abraham, edging the 34-year-old out of mind.
The frontman is yet to start a Premier League or Champions League fixture this season, contrasting with his eight appearances and five goals on the international stage.
Chelsea have successfully managed to extend Giroud’s contract twice in recent seasons, but will certainly face their most difficult task in keeping the forward this time around.

Leaving Would Help Olivier Giroud Retain National Selection for the Euros
Didier Deschamps has been rather open about Olivier Giroud’s situation at Chelsea, and how a move that ensures playing time, will bolster his chances on the international stage.
“Olivier knows it — the situation he’s in today cannot drag on forever. Before March (when France begin their World Cup qualifying campaign) he will have to find another situation than this one,” he said.
Where Could Giroud End Up?
It seems likely that Giroud will either remain in the Premier League or move on to Italy. Inter Milan and Lazio have both shown recent interest in the 34-year-old, but he is unlikely to be given a starring role, with Romelu Lukaku and Ciro Immobile both absolutely vital for their respective clubs.
Elsewhere, a whole host of Premier League clubs have enquired about Giroud in recent times. Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa all expressed interest in the striker in the last 10 months, but given the magnitude of business done in the summer transfer window, and especially in the forward department, his chances of securing a domestic move are diminishing.
