Manchester City Star Kevin De Bruyne Confirms New Contract Talks

While Manchester City fans may not have anything to shout about in terms of their league position, they can certainly get excited about this. Their star man, Kevin De Bruyne, has confirmed talks between himself and the club, as he hopes to stay on in Manchester.

Reigning PFA Player of the Year

Even though Liverpool cruised to the Premier League title last year, clinching the win 23 points ahead of City, a Liverpool player was not named PFA Players’ Player of the Year. That is not because the Merseysiders were underwhelming, far from it, but due to that exceptional play of De Bruyne.

Last season, the Belgian tallied 13 goals and 20 assists, which tied Thierry Henry for the record in England. While he’s been one of the league’s premier players since his arrival, he took his game to a whole new level last season and has established himself as the Premier League’s best.

De Bruyne also was voted the best midfielder in the Champions League, and being the best player in England and the best midfielder in the world is no mean feat. For that reason, locking him down will be a huge coup for City, although it never really looked in doubt.

De Bruyne Reiterates Desire to Stay

Talking to Belgian TV station VTM Nieuws after leading Belgium to a 2-0 win over England, De Bruyne said: “I am at a good club [with] good owners.

“We are a bit in talks – not advanced. At the moment I am doing the talks myself.

“I would like to stay with the club, so it’s easy. If I didn’t want to stay, it would take someone to mediate. But when you want to stay, it’s not so difficult.”

He certainly seems relaxed about his contract situation, which he should be, since he loves his club and they love him. He has never doubted that he wants to continue playing for City, so a contract renewal is really a no-brainer.

Nothing is confirmed, and nothing is guaranteed in football, but with De Bruyne confirming contract talks and his continued happiness working under Pep Guardiola, City fans look to be in for a mid-season pick-me-up. Hopefully for De Bruyne, he can lead his side to that elusive Champions League trophy.
