Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has said that he expects contract talks to begin with Son Heung-min sooner rather than later.
Son came on as a second half substitute in their 3-0 win against LASK on Thursday to score his ninth goal of the season, seven of which have come in Tottenham’s first five Premier League games.
The South Korean still has three years left on his current deal, but speaking after the game, the Spurs manager said he’d love it if a new deal was agreed.

Mourinho’s Comments
Mourinho said: “I would love him to sign a new contract. Son has three years of contract, so it’s not like we’re in an extreme situation of everybody being worried. It’s more that Son loves it here, I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time.
“Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture. It’s normal the club tries to go from three years to four or five or six, I don’t know. It’s normal.
“But it’s a very calm situation because Sonny has three more years of contract. But I wish for him to get a new contract. He deserves one. The club knows that and sooner or later, without any pressure, they will arrive into a decision.
“He cannot do more than what he does. Season after season after season, Sonny is showing how good he is.”
How Much Would His New Deal Be Worth?
According to Football Insider, the club are ready to offer the player a £200,000 a week plus performance-related bonuses deal to keep him at the club.
This would be a five-year deal and would almost double what he currently earns a week. It would also make him one of the top earners at the club, alongside Harry Kane.
Spurs are keen to get the player on a new long term deal as they look to avoid another Christian Eriksen situation, which saw the club having to sell the Danish international for a small fee when the player ran down his contract.
