Blow for Leicester City as Key Defender Söyüncü Ruled Out

Leicester City to Lose Defender for Some Time

Söyüncü is now out of action and expected to spend three months on the sidelines. He got injured while training with the Turkish national team. Medical scans done over the weekend revealed the extent of the injury for the 24-year-old defender.

Abductor tear injuries have various degrees. However, the one suffered by Söyüncü was possibly of the worst kind. Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Soyuncu’s tear is perhaps as bad as it could be. He said: “The muscle is right off the bone, so he could be out for three months which is an absolute shame for him and a big miss for us.”

Replacements for Söyüncü

Söyüncü was vital for the Foxes last season. The Turkish centre-back replaced Harry Maguire effortlessly as Leicester City finished in fifth place. His injury will make things very difficult for his side to replicate that feat this season. New signing Wesley Fofana made his debut against Aston Villa on Sunday. The 19-year-old French defender was impressive on his debut and Leicester City fans will hope that he can form a good partnership with the veteran Jonny Evans. In addition, Wes Morgan can also fill in, especially in the Europa League.

Injury nightmare for Leicester City

The injured suffered by Çağlar Söyüncü is similar to the one his teammate Wilfred Ndidi had. The Nigerian is also out for a similar length of time. In addition, Jamie Vardy also missed the Villa defeat but is expected to recover for the Arsenal match next week. Another key player Ricardo Pereira is only just nearing a return after seven months out. It is a devastating blow for Brendan Rodgers to lose so many key players at the same time.
