Ross Barkley fires Aston Villa into second place is a phrase that might just get Villa fans dreaming of glory. A dull game at the King Power Stadium finished with Barkley hitting a clinical finish right at the death.
Aston Villa Move to Second
90 Year Record Matched with Barkley Winner
With the last gasp win at Leicester City, Aston Villa have now won all four games at the start of the new Premier League season. It is the first time that Aston Villa have achieved this for 90 years. With Tottenham Hotspur having thrown away their chance to take second place earlier in the day, Villa took their chance with the match heading for a goalless draw.
Leicester City Benchmark for Shock Title Wins
2016 will forever be remembered as the season that Leicester City put shocked the rest of the Premier League and won the title. Despite escaping relegation the season before, Leicester thrived on their underdog status and held no prisoners. It is therefore ironic that it was at Leicester City where Aston Villa maintained the only unbeaten record in the Premier League. It is too early to start predicting who will win the League but Villa fans will be dreaming after a perfect start.
Goal Difference Potentially the Key
Aston Villa have a goal difference of plus ten. Having conceded only two goals so far, Dean Smith has toughened up his back line and made sure his attack is more clinical. Neither Villa nor Leicester were at their best, but Villa look to be improving whilst Leicester have lost two on the bounce since stunning Manchester City 5-2 at the Etihad three games ago.
Dream Start for Aston Villa and Ross Barkley
At Everton, Ross Barkley was a hero. His move to Chelsea paused his career as he never hit the heights of his Everton days. His move to Villa has reignited his career and he already looks like the player Everton fans once adored.
When Ross Barkley fires on all cylinders, he is a player with quality. Players happy, fans happy and Aston Villa might just be the team that others need to be wary of. Leicester City proved anything is possible. Their opponents tonight will hope that lightening can strike twice.
