After a long summer of rumours, and a supposed breakdown in transfer talks, Arsenal are finally about to get their man, Thomas Partey, who is arriving in London in order to complete his move, according to Fabrizio Romano. Lucas Torreira will go the other way on loan.
Thomas Partey in London to Complete Arsenal Move
Consistent Quality from the Defensive Midfielder
Partey is nothing if not reliable. Having played under Diego Simeone for years, defensive organization will surely have been a large part of his training. He has been a staple in Atletico Madrid‘s midfield for a long time, helping lead them to some impressive years.
His release clause of €50m is more than justified for a player of his quality, and he could go down as one of the signings of the season. Partey will be tasked with bringing consistency to a very unstable defence.
Arsenal Get One of Two Midfielders
After giving up on Houssem Aouar, this will be a welcome sight for Arsenal fans. The Lyon youngster is a fantastic prospect, and one who certainly has the potential to become a global superstar in the future. The Gunners also had a free run at him, similar to how Chelsea signed Kai Havertz. There was very little reported interest from other clubs. Aouar could also be a generational talent, and the Gunners should’ve taken advantage of their opportunity.
Chelsea got a great deal for Havertz, while Arsenal were set to get a great deal for Aouar, but they couldn’t get it across the line.
Now, though, the signing of Partey will be one out of two for Arsenal fans. Not the ideal window, as they missed a fantastic opportunity with Aouar, but better than nothing. Partey could have a wonderful career in North London, and finally lock down that defensive midfield position.
