REPORT: Tottenham Hotspur Considering Joe Rodon Move

Joe Rodon

Tottenham Hotspur are considering whether to make a move for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon, according to The Athletic’s Stuart James. The 22-year-old could reportedly demand a fee of around £18 million. The Welshman made his debut for Swansea under now-Brighton & Hove Albion boss Graham Potter at the start of the 2018/19 season.

A Late Move

With defender Juan Foyth out of the squad for the season after joining Villarreal on loan, Jose Mourinho could turn to young Welshman Rodon to provide competition for Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier at the heart of the Spurs defence.

Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Manchester City’s John Stones have also been options for the Portuguese.

Rodon is considered to be one of the brightest prospects in the Football League after his emergence a couple of seasons ago. Since then, he has gone on to become a key part of Swansea’s squad under Steve Cooper and has made his debut for the senior Wales national side managed by Ryan Giggs.

The 22-year-old has also attracted interest from West Ham United, which could see Swansea play hardball over the fee, especially given how close it is to the closure of the window. Although, as Rodon plays in the EFL, Spurs could have until October 16 to finalise the move.

Spurs may also wait until at least this Thursday to make a decision as Rodon is expected to play in England’s friendly against Wales at Wembley on that day. A good performance there could be the deciding factor.

Another Centre-Back on the Way Out?

With one centre-back potentially coming in, other looks to be leaving the club – and potentially to Rodon’s current club, Swansea. A report from football.london states that the Swans, along with Bournemouth and Luton Town, are keen on signing USA international Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old spent time with Swansea on loan in the 2018/19 season, making 30 appearances, and he also played 16 times for Luton in the second half of last season, helping them to Championship survival under Nathan Jones.
