Zak Vyner Signs New Bristol City Contract

Bristol City defender Zak Vyner has signed a new three-year contract at the club. The 23-year-old came through the academy with the Robins and made his debut for the club in a 2-0 win against MK Dons in 2016. The new deal will keep Vyner at Ashton Gate until 2023.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website about the new deal, Bristol City CEO Mark Ashton said: “Zak is another exemplary example of the homegrown talent here at Bristol City Football Club so I’m thrilled to see how far he has come. We’re all delighted for him and to see his dedication and hard work come to fruition.”

Head coach Dean Holden added: “Zak has proven he can step up to this level with his attitude, commitment, desire and overall quality – it’s been a joy to watch his progress. He has played a key role in our positive start to the 2020/21 season and long may he continue to develop and fight as an integral member of this football club.”

Time at the Club

Having progressed through the academy, Vyner went on to make four appearances in the second half of the 2015/16 season before going on to join Accrington Stanley on loan.

He then joined Plymouth Argyle on loan for the second half of the 2017/18 season, doing enough to win their Young Player of the Year award despite being there for only half of the campaign.

Vyner has also had loan spells at Rotherham United in 2018/19 and Aberdeen in 2019/20. His time in Scotland was cut short through injury but when he returned, he played in Bristol City’s final nine games.

The defender has played 90 minutes in all six of the club’s matches so far this season across the Championship and the Carabao Cup.

As well as Vyner’s new deal, Gregor MacGregor of BristolLive reports that Taylor Moore is also set to sign a new contract at the club, while winger Niclas Eliasson is supposedly close to joining French side Nimes.
