Juventus have contacted Lyon over the possibility of signing French playmaker Houssem Aouar, according to RMC’s Mohamed Bouhafsi. The 22-year-old has been a long-term target of Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal, who were struggling to strike a deal with the Ligue 1 side. However, interest from the Italian champions may dismantle the Gunners’ hopes of securing Aouar’s signature.
Aouar played a key role in Lyon’s Champions League campaign, in which the club finished as semi-finalists. His consistent and classy performances both in Europe and domestically earned the 22-year-old deserved recognition. With Lyon no longer present in European competition, speculation has arrived about a move where European football is on the table.

Aouar’s Admirable Technical Ability
The 22-year-old has obvious talent and was best showcased in the Champions League, with scintillating performances against Manchester City and Juventus.
French journalist Gael Berger told Sky Sports that Aouar has an “excellent vision of the game for such a young player”. His ability to create chances from nothing is also something that would excite potential buyers.
No Formal Offers From Juventus
Despite the Serie A side showing an increased interest in Aouar, Lyon are yet to receive a formal bid. Juventus have enquired about Lyon’s demands and how far negotiations were with Arsenal, but are yet to make an offer. This would suggest that Arsenal should act fast if they want to secure a deal.
The Gunners are expected to face fierce competition for Aouar’s signature. Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas told Canal+ (via Evening Standard) that Arsenal’s initial offer “didn’t consider the fact that this player is in the French national team,” labeling the offer ‘timid’.
Potential Aouar Replacement Coming In
With stronger interest growing for the French playmaker, Lyon look close to signing a replacement. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Lyon are near to sealing a deal with AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
The 23-year-old has supposedly said goodbye to his team-mates and left Milan, ahead of signing for Lyon. Whether Paqueta is a direct replacement for the Frenchman remains unseen, but it will trigger further speculation.
