Lucas Torreira is nearing an Arsenal exit, with the Uruguayan not part of Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans. According to Tom Kershaw of the Independent, Torino and Atletico Madrid are both particularly interested in striking a deal for Torreira, but no formal bids have been made.
The 24-year-old is considered surplus to requirements at the Emirates and a move away would suit all parties involved. Regular game-time could not be promised with the Gunners, but it seems a move to either club would secure regular minutes for the Uruguayan.

The Uruguayan midfielder made a brilliant start to life in the Premier League when he joined from Sampdoria in 2018. He emerged as a fans’ favourite in a tough period for Arsenal, making 63 Premier League appearances in that time.
However, Torreira has not been involved in any of the three squads Arteta has named this campaign. Mohamed Elneny’s return to Arsenal from Besiktas and Dani Ceballos’ second loan spell with the Gunners has placed the Uruguayan low-down in the pecking order. It has subsequently sparked enquiries from several clubs about his signing.
Where Next for Torreira?
Despite only Torino and Atletico Madrid being the only clubs vocalising their interest in the Uruguayan, his availability is expected to interest a whole host of European clubs.
However, the Gunners could use Torreira as part of a deal that bring Atletico’s Thomas Partey to The Emirates. But, according to Sky Sports, both clubs want a different deal. Atletico would prefer a season-long loan, whereas Arsenal are in pursuit of formulating a permanent deal.
If Arsenal are unsuccessful in negotiating with Atletico, then the 24-year-old could still be used to lure other transfer targets. Chelsea’s Jorginho and Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar are wanted by Arsenal, who could offer Torreira as part of a deal.
