A Centre-Back With Plenty of Experience.
Deemed once as one of the most promising defenders in Scotland, Mckenna made his Aberdeen debut in May 2016. He spent the following year out on loan at Ayr United, before returning to the Dons for the 2017/18 season. It what was a breakthrough year for the centre-back, playing 35 times for Aberdeen in all competitions and being named the club’s Player of the Year.
McKenna’s impressive performances for his side also caught the eye of Scotland manager Alex McLeish, who gave him his first cap in March 2018. He has won 16 caps since then and also captained his country in June 2018.
McKenna has featured in Europe too, featuring for Aberdeen in their Europa League campaigns over the last three seasons. Overall, he has made 119 appearances for the Scottish club.
He has been somewhat of a wanted man in recent years, receiving offers from the likes of Aston Villa, Queens Park Rangers and Celtic. Forest also made a bid for McKenna last summer, however it was rejected by Aberdeen. But 13 months on, the Reds finally have their man.
McKenna joins a back line which already includes the likes of Yuri Ribeiro, Joe Worrall and Cyrus Christie, who is also a Reds new boy following his move from Fulham.
Despite the incomings, it’s been a frustrating start for the East Midlands side. They have lost their opening two matches and have already conceded four goals. There’s doubt that Forest fans will be hoping McKenna can bring his quality south of the border and tighten up their defence.
