REPORT: Manchester City Interested in Anderlecht Forward Jeremy Doku

Doku

Manchester City have shown interest in Anderlecht forward Jeremy Doku. City will utilise their close links with Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany to try and sign the 18-year old according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph.

Doku is highly-rated at the Belgian Pro League club. He made his international debut last week for Belgium against Denmark in the UEFA Nations League. The teenager then scored in his second match against Iceland.

REPORT: Manchester City Want Anderlecht’s Jeremy Doku

In Demand Doku

Despite City’s advantage through their ties with Kompany, interest remains high in Doku from across Europe.

AC Milan and Juventus are both aware of the 18-year-old’s potential and may be willing to pay £20 million for his services.

Doku made his debut for Anderlecht in November 2018 at the age of 16. He came on as a late substitute in the 4-2 loss to Sint-Truidense VV in the Pro League fixture.

Despite only making nine senior appearances in the 2018/19 season, Doku excelled last season for Anderlecht. The 18-year-old went on to make 21 appearances for Kompany’s side throughout the season. He scored four goals and made three assists in all competitions.

Before earning his first cap for Belgium last week, Doku featured heavily for the U21 side. The teenager made an instant impact against Iceland, producing a ferocious finish in the 5-1 victory.

The Future for City

If Pep Guardiola made a move for Doku, it would likely be a transfer with the future in mind. With the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero leading the line for City, the talented youngster would face stiff competition for the lone striker role which Guardiola prefers.

However, it would be an ideal learning environment for the 18-year-old and he would benefit from Premier League football next season. He would benefit from the experience of Jesus and Aguero and may perhaps be regarded as the prolific Argentinian’s long-term replacement at the Etihad.
