Aston Villa are set to make their move for Bournemouth striker Joshua King according to The Telegraph’s John Percy.

Villa are desperate for attacking reinforcements after staggering to Premier League safety last season. Dean Smith is pushing for several new attackers to beef up his team.

Smith has turned his attentions to King after missing out on his former teammate Callum Wilson, who has joined Newcastle United.

According to Percy, Villa are set to launch a £16 million bid for the Norwegian international.

Villa Are Desperate to Improve Their Attack

Dean Smith is keen on boosting his attack this transfer window, making the signing of a striker a priority. Goals eluded his team last season with Wesley, Keinan Davis, and Mbwana Samatta scoring just six Premier League goals between them.

Villa have been chasing several strikers this summer including Callum Wilson but the England international preferred a move to Newcastle. Josh King would certainly bring plenty of experience and an eye for goal should Villa manage to bring him in.

King is proven in the Premier League and certainly fits the bill in what Dean Smith is looking for. In his 161 Premier League appearances, King has 48 goals and 14 assists. Villa are taking their time in finding the right players with their league campaign not getting underway until September 20.

Should King arrive, he would certainly slot into the Villa’s starting 11. His pace and quality on the ball make him a unique striker. Should Villa launch a bid for him, they may face competition, with other clubs, who are also looking to boost their attacks, sniffing around.

Villa Pushing for New Signings

Its been a very quiet transfer window at Villa Park with Matty Cash being Villa’s only signing. Recruitment is likely to step up between now and the start of the season.

Improving the attack is Smith’s priority. Josh King would be an excellent addition. Smith is also a long term admirer of Brentford duo Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma. However, he is looking to strengthen in other positions, including between the sticks with Villa set to launch a new bid for Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

If Villa can acquire King for £16 million, it would be good business for all parties involved.
