The red half of Merseyside looks silent after winning the league for the first time in 30 years. Well, on the contrary, their rivals, Everton seem to be on a roll in the transfer market.
The Toffees have already signed James Rodriguez and Allan from Real Madrid and Napoli respectively, as per renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The transfer specialist also went on to add that the club are closing in on a move for Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Carlo Ancelotti might just have got his wishes granted at Goodison Park. The elite manager, who has spent years at Europe’s top clubs, surely needs the right personnel to keep the Everton fans happy.
Let’s take a look at how the new look Toffees setup could look this upcoming season.
Analysing the New Look Everton Side for 2020/21
The Revamped Midfield
Ancelotti has two ways in which he can place the three new incoming midfielders at the centre of the park.
The first one being that the Italian boss could play with two pivots and an attacking midfielder behind the striker. This will be the most ideal perspective with the kind of players that are coming in. James Rodriguez is an epitome of an ideal central midfielder. Behind him, Allan and Doucouré can play the two central midfielders.
Allan has all the might to play a box-to-box role, while Doucouré can be like the fifth defending wall before the back-line could be tested. This could be the magic sauce for the Toffees to finish in the top eight in the Premier League for sure.
In an alternative format, he can setup a single pivot of Doucouré while unleashing Allan and James Rodriguez upfront. But this could backfire a bit as Rodriguez is less efficient in a dual-man midfield rather than his superiority as a single attacking midfielder.
Potential Happy Reunions at Everton for Allan and Rodriguez
Both Allan and James Rodriguez have played under Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli and Real Madrid respectively. During his time in Naples, his apparently new Brazilian recruit actually had his career-best form.
Meanwhile, it was also under the Italian manager when James Rodriguez made his name in Madrid. Since the departure of Ancelotti, Rodriguez has lost his first team role, has been loaned out and now finds himself as an outcast at the Bernabeu.
It’s about hitting two targets with one move. Ancelotti gets his men, while the three midfielders get a revival to their dying careers. Nevertheless, Everton could add another dimension to the upcoming season with such quality signings almost imminently arriving as the Toffees aim for a top eight finish.
