The now long-running transfer saga surrounding Liverpool and Thiago Alcântara is expected to edge closer towards a conclusion with Liverpool expected to make an official approach in the coming days, according to Christian Falk.
It is believed Liverpool are now preparing to approach the midfielder’s current club Bayern Munich and attempt to discuss the transfer, and, more importantly, the fee in the next few days.
Liverpool Set to Make Thiago Approach
Thiago Wants Liverpool
Following Bayern’s Champions League success on Sunday night, in which Thiago started and was a part of the build-up for the only goal, it seems now the clubs are ready to discuss the potential transfer.
Thiago has made the decision to leave this summer and Liverpool is his number one destination. It has been reported that the midfielder has in fact already agreed on terms with the Anfield club.
As the club’s open discussion over the fee, it could present potentially the biggest sticking point over the deal. Historically tough negotiators, the Reds will attempt to hold their own as they attempt to pay around the £25 million mark. Whilst the Bundesliga champions are looking for closer to £30 million.
A key member of the Bayern treble-winning squad last season, Thiago is one of the best players in his position and, despite Jurgen Klopp being somewhat blessed in the centre of midfield, his signing would be a significant coup for Liverpool.
At 29-years-old, the Spanish international does not fit the usual profile of a Liverpool signing in recent seasons. However, when a player of his quality and with his recent track record of winning trophies comes about, it is almost impossible for any team to look the other way.
Should Liverpool make their approach for Thiago as expected, it mightn’t be long before Klopp completes his second summer signing.
