Goode Does Good

The Northampton skipper was highly thought of at the newly promoted League One side, despite only spending 18-months at Sixfields.

The 25-year-old defender has now donated some money he was owed by the club back to the Academy, following his reported £1.5 million move to Brentford.

In an interview with the Northampton Chronicle, Cobblers chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “This is a fantastic and a really impressive move from Charlie.

“Charlie was contractually due some money from the club but he has decided to donate part of that money to help support the work we do with the young players at the club’s academy.

“Footballers sometimes have a bad reputation but this is a terrific gesture from a fantastic character.”

Thomas, who has been at the club since 2015, added: “To make such a gesture at a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world shows how much affection Charlie has for the club and how much affection we have for him.

“We thank Charlie for everything he has done for the club and wish him every success at his new club.”

Move to Brentford

On Tuesday, it was announced that the centre back had joined Premier League chasing Brentford. The fee is believed to be around £1 million, but could rise to £1.5 million with add-ons.

The Cobblers skipper impressed last season, making 45 appearances as Northampton won promotion to League One through the playoffs.

During his 18-months at Sixfields, Goode made 62 appearances and scored four goals for the League Two outfit, following his arrival from Scunthorpe United in January 2019.
