Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of centre-back Chey Dunkley from Wigan Athletic. The 28-year-old becomes Wednesday’s second signing of the summer after the capture of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru from Manchester City.

Dunkley’s Career
Wolverhampton-born Dunkley came through the youth academy at Crewe Alexandra, but after a loan spell at Hednesford Town, he left Crewe without having appeared for the first team.
He dropped down to non-league again, signing for Hednesford on a permanent deal before moving onto Kidderminster Harriers.
After close to 100 appearances for Kidderminster, Dunkley was loaned to Oxford United in 2014 before joining the U’s permanently that January, finally getting a chance at EFL level.
He excelled at Oxford, featuring in the Football League Trophy final at Wembley against Barnsley – although his own goal helped the Tykes to a 3-2 win.
He also scored the first goal in the 3-0 win against Wycombe Wanderers which helped Oxford secure promotion to League One in the 2015/16 season.
Following the expiry of his contract at Oxford, Dunkley joined Wigan in 2017. In his three seasons with the Latics, he made a total of 105 appearances and scored 13 times.

He scored seven of those in Wigan’s promotion-winning season in 2017/18. A goalless campaign then followed before the rest of his six came in the season that has just finished – one in which Wigan were relegated.
In a tweet, Dunkley said of his move to the club: “Thanks for the welcoming messages… can’t wait to get to work.”
