Manchester United are developing talks with Borussia Dortmund for winger Jadon Sancho and are close to agreeing on a fee. According to Christian Falk of Bild, United are prepared to pay €120 million in installments rather than one lump sum. The Red Devils’ pursuit of Sancho is no secret, and both parties want to wrap up a deal as soon as possible.
REPORT: Manchester United Agree Payment Plan For Jadon Sancho
A Lengthy Saga
The Jadon Sancho transfer saga is unlikely to go away now. It has dominated the sports headlines for months with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prioritising a winger to bolster his ranks.
A move for the 20-year-old became more likely when Manchester United secured Champions League football for next season. The Englishman has scored 17 goals and assisted a further 17 in a spectacular season for Dortmund. A player of his talent belongs in Europe’s elite competition, so United had to wait before making their move.
The Red Devils also tend to take their time with their transfer business. Ed Woodward and Matt Judge want to get the best deal possible so they haggle for a long time. For example, Harry Maguire was identified as a key target before last summer; however, it wasn’t until just six days before the season opener that he joined.
A similar scenario may occur with Sancho. Coughing up €120 million at the best of times is difficult, regardless of the economic downturn the world is suffering currently. As a result, the negotiations may continue throughout the summer.
Dortmund’s Demand
Today’s latest development from Christian Falk is important for the deal. He claims that Borussia Dortmund will allow Manchester United to pay the fee in installments. This makes the deal somewhat easier for United to do.
Dortmund have also laid down a demand to Manchester United to complete the deal. Falk reports that for Dortmund to accept a deal, United must submit a formal offer by August 10.
Manchester United have a week to submit a deal on Dortmund’s terms, but will Woodward and Judge’s slow negotiating compromise to this demand?
