REPORT: Jeremy Ngakia Set to Join Watford After Leaving West Ham United

Jeremy Ngakia

After turning down a new West Ham United contract in June – even failing to extend to the rest of the season – Jeremy Ngakia is reportedly set to join Watford as a free agent. According to Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian, the young full-back is close to securing a move to the recently relegated Hornets.

Jeremy Ngakia Set for Watford Move

A Move That Could Surprise Many

Upon his West Ham departure, the general reasoning behind Ngakia’s exit seemed to be his desire for better horizons. The 19-year-old rejected offer after offer from West Ham, despite being in the position to receive consistent first-team minutes. Ngakia made five appearances for the Hammers in the Premier League last season, particularly impressing against Liverpool and tricky winger Sadio Mane.

All seemed to be heading in the right direction for both parties, yet, as we prepare for the new season, Ngakia will no longer be seen in the vintage claret and blue colours of West Ham. Instead, as reports suggest, the young defender looks on the verge of joining Watford – going from the potential of Premier League starts to the Championship.

The move, if completed, will surprise many when considering West Ham’s survival alongside Nkakia’s chance for first-team action.

The First of Many Summer Signings By Watford?

After failing to avoid the dreaded drop of the Premier League, Watford will be keen to ensure a swift bounce back up to the promised land. To secure this goal, however, they may be forced to endure a busy summer with plenty of outgoings alongside potential arrivals. Jeremy Ngakia could well become the first of many players to put pen to paper on a Watford deal this summer.

The Hornets will want to act efficiently in the market for players as well as in their search for a permanent manager after the departure of Nigel Pearson resulted in relegation.
