Michail Antonio is likely to sign a new one-year extension with West Ham United, manager David Moyes has confirmed.

West Ham United Close to Agreeing Contract Extension With Michail Antonio

Hugely Important

The 30-year-old winger is hugely important to the West Ham set up. He has scored eight goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this season, including an impressive four against Norwich City.

As a result, Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to see him remain at the London Stadium. Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Scotsman said:  “He’s got a year to go [on his present contract] and, as far as I know, he has got a built-in extension, so I don’t think there is any real panic [about Antonio’s future].”

Antonio’s current contract expires in 2021. However, as confirmed by Moyes, he is likely to remain with the club beyond next summer.

The former Nottingham Forest winger has enjoyed a hugely successful career with the Hammers since joining in 2015. Across his five-year spell he has scored 36 times, operating from both out wide and as a central striker.

Moyes Keen to Play Down His Importance

Speaking ahead of their vital home game against Watford, David Moyes was keen to pay down the importance of Antonio, despite his form since the restart.

He said: “I don’t think it will be Michy who saves it. If we stay in the Premier League it will be because of the team’s performance, and I think it will be the attitude of all the players.

“The players have been bang at it since I came in, in January. We have been desperate to win all the games. The players have done a great job.

“But we have needed to step up and score goals, and thankfully, Michail Antonio has come up to the mark and got some goals. Hopefully that continues in the remaining three games.”
