An American move could be on the cards for Brentford’s Dru Yearwood, according to the Southend Echo.
The 20-year-old has come onto the radar of MLS side New York Red Bulls, who are prepared to offer £1.5 million to bring him to the club.
Brentford’s Dru Yearwood Nearing Move to New York Red Bulls
Transfer Window
The transfer window for American teams opens on August 12, so a deal will likely be confirmed once their window opens.
A deal for the Englishman has been on the cards for a while now, but it seems as though the move is now nearing completion, with the player set to dump English football and head for the USA.
Struggling for Playing Time at Brentford
It will come as a boost to the player, who has struggled to feature for the Bees since his move to the club last summer.
Still only young, Yearwood has only managed to play in a total of two games in the league for the Championship side so far this season, and with the prospect of a Premier League promotion for the club, he may find game time even harder to come by next season.
Therefore, a move would be the logical option, and Red Bulls are prepared to offer it to him.
Southend to Benefit
The move could not only benefit Brentford but Southend, his former club, too. The Shrimpers have inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that is believed to be worth around 20 percent.
It means that if the £1.5 million deal did go through, they could be entitled to a payment of £300,000, which would no doubt be a huge bonus to the club who have just been relegated to League Two.
Yearwood has played most of his football for the Roots Hall side, featuring in over 50 games for the club as a teenager and contributing four assists during his time there.
He caught the eye and was swiftly snapped up by Brentford for an undisclosed fee. It now though appears as if his foreseeable future – and remember, he is still only 20 years of age, will be spent playing football in the MLS.
