Leeds United are to be without Kalvin Phillips for the remainder of the season due to injury.
Leeds United Suffer Injury Blow as Kalvin Phillips Dealt Time on Sidelines
Out for Remainder of the Season
The news comes ahead of a potential promotion-sealing victory over Barnsley on Thursday.
Marcelo Bielsa‘s side are six points clear of third-placed Brentford and nearing an inevitable return to the Premier League.
Should Brentford fail to beat Preston North End on Wednesday, a Leeds victory against Barnsley can seal their promotion after 16 years.
But the Whites’ Argentine boss has been dealt an injury blow as Phillips is to miss the final three matches of the season.
Phillips has scored twice in 40 appearances for the Championship leaders.
Ahead of Thursday’s clash, Bielsa said: “Kalvin [Phillips] is not going to play in Thursday’s match. We don’t know if he’s going to play the next two matches as well.”
He further explained: “He has a problem in the knee and probably is not going to be involved in the last three. But, in the worst scenario, it’s an injury we are going to resolve in four or five weeks.”
Phillips struggled through Leeds’ last-gasp victory at Swansea City at the weekend.
The midfielder completed the game but picked up a knock to his knee and had to wear strapping for the second half.
Leeds supporters have turned to social media to react to the news.
Played through the pain to help us get that last minute winner. It’s down to the rest of the squad now. #lufc https://t.co/btLsgCQmNa

Gutted for Kalv.
Should be there in the heart of the celebrations and more importantly, we still need him in the team to keep my bloody nerves intact!
Hopefully nothing too serious and he’ll be back stronger 💪 🙏 #lufc

Pablo has to start now Phillips is out. We will be terrible with a midfield three of White, Klich and Roberts. No control there whatsoever. #lufc
