United fans will no doubt be looking for a much better performance from the last time these two teams met. Former Red Devils forward Joshua King scored the only goal of the game just before half-time as the Cherries ran out 1-0 winners.
However, at the moment, form seems to going the way of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. Since the Premier League restarted, they have picked up seven points from a possible nine, and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup after an extra-time victory against Norwich City. Meanwhile, Bournemouth are yet to pick up a point since the league’s return, losing to Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
What Would a Win Do for Both Teams?
A win here for United will see them move above Chelsea, for a couple of hours at least, with the London side playing Watford later on in the day. They will also increase the pressure on third place Leicester City, who have struggled since the league restarted.
Although United will be looking forward, they will also have to keep an eye on Wolves, who are just behind them on goal difference. They host Arsenal on Saturday, who have won two in a row in all competitions after initially struggling with their return.
Bournemouth need a win if they are going to start getting themselves out of trouble. Three disappointing defeats since the season restarted has seen them drop to 19th with 27 points.
A win will see them move out of the relegation zone and above Aston Villa and Watford until they both play later on in the weekend.
Team News
United seem to have found what they’ve been missing with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba in midfield. Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford have got pace to burn and look set to be United’s first choice front three going forward until the end of the season.
Their squad is almost fully fit. Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones, who haven’t featured since December and January respectively, are getting back to fitness and, although doubtful, either could feature on the bench for Saturday if fit enough.
Callum Wilson will completely miss out for Bournemouth as he serves the second of his two-match ban. Meanwhile, Charlie Daniels remains out due to a serious knee injury picked up last August.
