But, after making his way to the top via the Cherries, it is now time for Ake to make his dream big move. And, with Bournemouth sitting on the verge of relegation, the previous reported asking price of £75 million will likely drop to a more reasonable price. The fact is if Bournemouth fail to avoid the dreaded drop, they will fail to keep ahold of top players who need to be playing on the biggest of stages. This includes Ake who is undoubtedly too good to be wasting his career in the Championship.

A player of Nathan Ake’s ability shouldn’t be lining up in a relegation-threatened team week in week out. Instead, he should be battling for European places at teams like Leicester City or Manchester United. His pace shuts down attackers; his ability on the ball calms those around him, and his power prevents goals. The Dutchman possesses all the traits of a world-class centre back, so why hasn’t a big move happened yet?
The main reason a big move has failed to happen for Ake so far is his price tag. According to Sky Sports, Bournemouth demanded as much as £75 million for the Dutchman last summer; at the time, Leicester City were in need of a Harry Maguire replacement. But, due to the incredibly high price, the Foxes soon opted out of a potential deal. The Cherries were demanding what Liverpool had paid for Virgil Van Dijk for a player that isn’t at that level. Ake may be a good player but is nowhere near the level of his fellow Dutchman.
A More Affordable Price This Summer
Fast forward to this summer, however, and a deal for Nathan Ake seems an affordable one for many clubs; this due to the impact of the Coronavirus and Bournemouth’s current threat of relegation. If the Cherries, who currently sit 18th on goal difference, were to face relegation the price of Ake would dramatically drop. Instead of last summers reported price of £75 million, the price would likely be around the £50 million mark this summer. And when considering today’s market, that is a fairly reasonable price for a top centre back such as Nathan Ake.
