Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool all have targets at RB Leipzig, and their chief recently spoke on the future of said players, handing the Premier League sides a major boost.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool Targets Could be on the Move After RB Leipzig Chief’s Latest Comments
The Comments
In a recent interview, chief of RB Leipzig Olivier Mintzlaff had this to say regarding the uncertain futures of many of his high performing players.
“In the Covid-19 crisis, we have other issues greater than concerns about contracts.
“We know the terms of our players’ contracts and I know them very well – especially that of our top performers.
“For us, it is a no go that the top performers will be allowed to leave our club free of charge.
“That’s the case with Timo Werner and that will be the case with Dayot Upamecano. I have the economic stability of the club in mind.”
“We have to sell before we buy anything. But I see the need to sell only to a limited extent. We have a good squad.”
The club will attempt to raise funds to keep itself comfortably afloat during this crisis, and it seems that selling their two most in-demand players – Dayot Upamecano and Timo Werner – would be the best way to do so.
English Interest in the Youngsters
There is much interest from England in both of these youngsters.
Manchester United are interested in both Werner and Upamecano, looking to make youthful acquisitions in the summer. Werner would be a fantastic signing, enhancing their attack along with the potential signing of Jadon Sancho, and fits well with their current fast-paced counter-attacking style of play. Upamecano would be equally useful, partnering Captain Harry Maguire in the centre of defence. Furthermore, the 21-year-old’s contract expires in just over a year, and being in high demand he is unlikely to renew. As per the chief of the club’s comments, it is far more likely that they will sell him this summer and make a profit than wait and let him go for free, giving the Red Devils much hope in their chase.
However, they are not alone. London giants Arsenal are also considering a move for the Frenchman, with their defence currently looking weak. The Gunners will try to take as much advantage as United of RB Leipzig’s precarious position with Upamecano, and will likely fight them for his signature this summer.
Rivalling the Red Devils for the German outfit’s other star man, Liverpool are one of the top candidates to complete the signing of Timo Werner, and with one of the best teams in Europe, they have much to offer. He would add yet more quality to their already legendary front three, with Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah either side of him.
Ultimately, RB Leipzig have many takers for their top players and will command a bidding war this summer to raise funds for the future.
