Great for Liverpool, Flop for Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho was a fantastic player during his time at Liverpool.

A classy player in his own right, the Brazilian also scored goals and oozed quality. During the 2016/17 season, he managed thirteen goals, as well as seven assists, attracting extensive interest from Barcelona. Eventually, after much speculation, the move happened. In January 2018, Coutinho made a massive move from Liverpool to Barca, which cost the Catalan giants in the region of £142 million. But he did not live up to the price in Spain.

Slightly better in his first season, Coutinho was a flop during his second. Managing just five goals from thirty-four appearances in La Liga, Coutinho did not impress his new club.

They were looking for someone to take him off their hands, and Bayern Munich came in with an offer to bring him to Germany on loan. He has not been particularly impressive there either.

Barcelona will see the Brazilian return to Spain at the end of the season and are looking for potential suitors, with many English sides interested.

Manchester United Want World-Class Players

United are looking into many players of world-class stature, with some more likely to join than others. While there will be many clubs fighting over the 27-year-old, Manchester United stand a good chance of signing him if they want to, but with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking for talent in young players, he will not be at the top of their list.

Furthermore, as Barcelona are looking to sell him for roughly €90 million, he would cost a large sum. The Red Devils would be ready to welcome him for a discount price of €65 million, but there are better uses of their money elsewhere, with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho waiting in the wings for a United move.
