According to Barney Corkhill from SportMole, Eredivisie giants Ajax want to bring Barcelona prospect Pedri to the club. This would be right after Barcelona’s agreed deal for the 17-year-old goes through in the summer.
Ajax Want Young Spanish Talent Pedri on Loan
Pedri’s Rise as a Prospect
On 2 September 2019, FC Barcelona reached an agreement with Las Palmas for the transfer of Pedri, effective 1 July. The player agreed to a two-year contract with the Catalans, who paid €5-million for the deal.
Moreover, the Camp Nou outfit let the 17-year-old stay at Las Palmas for this season, before joining Barcelona officially at the end of it. Essentially, this acts as his loan deal from the Catalonia giants.
Born 25 November 2002, Pedri came up through Las Palmas’ youth ranks and is now a regular fixture in the first team. Now that he’s secured a move to what many call “more than a club,” he’s gonna have to fight for game time against the likes of Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele.
Ajax to Nurture More Young Talent?
Ajax has always been known for nurturing many young talents who have gone on to achieve great things in football.
A few names that are on Ajax’s list of former prospects are Toby Alderweireld, Luis Suarez, Matthijs de Ligt, and Frenkie de Jong.
Ajax currently have the likes of Sergiño Dest, David Neres, and Donny van de Beek on their books. Pedri would definitely be a good addition to those players who have made their name at Ajax thus far.
Should Pedri go on Loan?
The simple answer to this question is yes.
Ajax are known for developing young talents, and even over the course of a season, Pedri could completely up his game. Barca fans could easily see him slot onto the bench, if not the starting eleven from Time to time with the ageing of players such as Messi.
