REPORT: Arsenal Urged to Make Shock Transfer

Arsenal have been urged to make a shock transfer for Burnley striker Chris Wood, according to sports writer Matt Scott.

Arsenal Urged to Make Shock Transfer

Should Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave Arsenal in the summer, the Gunners could struggle. There have been many suggestions as to who should replace him and, most recently, Matt Scott urged them to buy Wood.

Aubameyang Set to Leave

It seems that Aubameyang will leave London this summer. His contract expires in 2021 and with Arsenal very unlikely to reach the Champions League next season, they don’t have much more to seduce him.

The Gabonese striker could join many clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona and Inter Milan with all of these having strikers who may leave in the summer, therefore looking for a replacement.

Aubameyang has given Arsenal so much this year, getting himself to second top Premier League goalscorer before its suspension due to the coronavirus. However, he could leave the club in the summer, and many sides are ready to snap him up.

Scott Believes Wood Could be a Good Replacement

Wood has been consistently good for Burnley since joining from Leeds United in 2017. The New Zealander scored ten league goals in his first two seasons and has eleven this campaign.

His strength in aerial duels is impeccable, with five of his eleven goals this season coming from headers. He is also a dangerous presence in the box. Eight of the 28-year-old’s goals this season have come from the six-yard box, and none have been outside it.

This would help the Gunners tremendously, as the club have the same amount of goals (eight) as Wood from inside the six-yard-area. Arsenal do, however, tend to score from inside the penalty area, so Wood could both help them very close to the goal, and fit with their style of play scoring from a little further out.
