Liverpool secured a sixteenth consecutive league win as they edged out Norwich City at Carrow Road. In a game dominated by the difficult weather conditions, Sadio Mane scored the decisive goal meaning Liverpool need just five more wins to secure a first Premier League title.
Sadio Mane Puts Liverpool a Step Closer to the Title
Liverpool’s terrific league continued as they secured a narrow win at the Premier League’s bottom club Norwich. The Reds took their time to find their groove but eventually their quality paid off.
It was a lacklustre first-half performance from Liverpool with the Reds taking their time to adapt to the difficult weather conditions. However, after a stern word from Jurgen Klopp, the Reds stepped up and kept Tim Krul very busy. The Norwich keeper denied Mohamed Salah brilliantly while also denying Naby Keita and Virgil Van Dijk.
The introduction of Sadio Mane gave Liverpool a different edge and his excellent near-post finish secured Liverpool yet another win. The African Player of the Year also reaches 100 goals in English football. His 75th Liverpool goal could be his most important and the result means Liverpool need just five more wins to secure a first league title in 30 years.
They have opened a mammoth 25-point lead at the top of the table having played a game more than Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool’s title charge as “outstanding” as they take another big step towards the title.
Jordan Henderson Continues To Drive Liverpool Forward
While Sadio Mane will take the headlines for scoring the winner, Jordan Henderson’s outstanding performance helped Liverpool beat Norwich. His endeavour and leadership qualities were clear to see as he set the winning goal.
As Mane notched his twelfth Premier League goal of the season, Jordan Henderson helped himself to his fifth assist of the campaign. His terrific pass ripped Norwich’s defence apart and you could how much that goal meant to him. He has the most assists of any Liverpool central midfielder this season as his importance to the Liverpool team continues to be highlighted.
Liverpool Face A Busy Week Of Action
Liverpool’s win at Norwich sets them up perfectly for the first leg of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid. The Reds head to Spain hoping to gain the advantage in the tie and keep their grip on the Champions League tight.
