Bolton Wanderers Sign Midfielder Anthony Georgiou
The Deal
Bolton announced via their website they had signed the midfielder. Georgiou arrives on loan for the remainder of the season and becomes Bolton’s seventh January signing.
The talented Cyprus international came through the youth system at Tottenham and made his debut against APOEL Nicosia in 2017. He is a capped Cyprus international who has spent time out on loan.
He has spent time with La Liga side Levante and, more recently, League One promotion hunters Ipswich Town. However, his game time was restricted, making just 15 appearances for the Tractor Boys. Spurs recalled him at the beginning of the window with the intention of loaning him out once again.
He brings plenty of quality and excellent skills on the ball. Bolton have lacked creativity all season and Keith Hill will hope to get the best out of Georgiou as Bolton look to finish the season strongly. He will fill the void left by Will Buckley, who is out injured, and Thibauld Verlinden, who has returned to Stoke City.
It is an impossible situation for Bolton at the bottom of League One, so it’s a case of finding players ready to compete next season in League Two. Georgiou is ready to seize his opportunity and at least give the Bolton fans something to smile about.
He is eligible to make his debut against Tranmere Rovers tomorrow in a clash between two of the bottom three. Even a win would likely make no difference in the outcome of Bolton’s season, but restoring pride is something the players will be keen to do, and they will have a good chance against another struggling side in Tranmere.
