Alisson Stars as Liverpool Secure Hard Fought Win at Wolverhampton Wanderers

Alisson

Liverpool collected their fourteenth consecutive league win in a dramatic finish at Wolves. Roberto Firmino’s late winner secured a hard-fought win at Molineux. It was a night for Jurgen Klopp to be grateful to Alisson who made a string of terrific saves. However, their win has come at a cost with Sadio Mane having to go off injured in the first half.

Liverpool Secure Hard-Fought Win at Wolves

On a night where Liverpool weren’t at their scintillating best, the Reds still secured another win as they charge towards the Premier League title.

Their resilience was on show once again as they battled to victory. A night where Klopp had to really get into his players. He barked at Virgil Van Dijk while Henderson was also shouting at his teammates to up their game.

Wolves were outstanding and on another day, they would have secured an unlikely victory against a sloppy Liverpool side. A performance Nuno Espirito Santo will be extremely proud of.

A case of poor finishing from both sides. Mohamed Salah, in particular, was extremely sloppy. His end product was disappointing throughout the game and with Mane expected to miss the next few games, the Egyptian needs to step up.

However, Liverpool’s continued desire to never give in was rewarded with a goal from Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian is enjoying his best Liverpool season and is in terrific form. A classic Firmino finish securing their 14th consecutive league win.

Alisson Proving Why He’s the World’s Best Goalkeeper

As one Brazilian scored the vital winner, another was keeping Liverpool in the game at the other end.

Alisson was outstanding at Molineux making save after save to keep Liverpool in the game. He made a string of terrific saves including a full-stretch save to deny Adama Traore.

The Brazilian was on top form and certainly played his part in Liverpool going 40 Premier League games unbeaten.

However, Their Win Has Come at A Big Cost

Despite securing a terrific fourteenth league win on the spin, it may have come at a big cost. Sadio Mane lasted just over half an hour before going off injured.

Speaking to the BBC after the Wolves game, Klopp said “Sadio felt something in his hamstring. We don’t know yet. We have to wait,”

Africa’s player of the year felt his hamstring and couldn’t continue leaving Klopp concerned. Takumi Minamino replaced him and did very well for the large part.

Losing Mane is a huge blow and Klopp will hope his injury isn’t too serious ahead of a busy run of games to come.  The Reds face three games in nine days and its likely Mane will miss all three if Klopp’s fears are confirmed.

He may well have sat out Sunday’s cup tie at League One Shrewsbury but certainly would off played against West Ham and Southampton.

A terrific opportunity for Takumi Minamino to show his talents and fill the void left by Mane. Firmino will take up a central role with Salah and Minamino on the flanks.
