Carlisle United have made their fourth January signing. The Cumbrians have signed full-back Nick Anderton on a permanent deal from Blackpool.
Carlisle United Sign Nick Anderton
Carlisle announced via their website they had signed the defender. Anderton arrives on an 18-month contract for an undisclosed fee and becomes Chris Beech’s fourth addition.
Anderton is Carlisle’s second signing in as many days after Joshua Kayode arrived yesterday.
The full-back arrives aiming to kick start his career after struggling for game time since leaving hometown club Preston.
Anderton could make his debut this weekend when Carlisle travel to fellow strugglers Oldham Athletic.
What Was Said
Speaking to the Carlisle website about his new signing, head coach Chris Beech said: “He’ll bring experience, quality and strength.
“He’s played in League One and he was doing very well at Barrow before that, which meant that Blackpool paid good money for him.
“He was at Accrington during the first half of last season and did very well, so I’m very excited that he’s here.
“He’s gone about his career the hard way, but that means he’s got real character and it sometimes helps a player to become very committed.
“From speaking to him I know this is a challenge he’s looking forward to. He wants to make an impact and he wants to help us to win games. He knows he has to earn the right to be in the team, but he’s coming here very focused and in a positive frame of mind.”
Blackpool Confirm Anderton’s Departure
Blackpool released a statement confirming Anderton’s move to Carlisle. The full-back struggled to make an impact for the Seasiders.
Speaking to the Blackpool website about Anderton, chief executive Ben Mansford said: “Nick is at the stage now where he needs to go and play regular games again. He’s been a fantastic lad around the place and we wish him well in this next chapter of his career.”
